New Appreciations
Some new appreciations I developed were giving programmers a break. There's lots of programs out there and when they go wrong people get mad and want them fixed immediately, however its not so simple. When they get bug reports they first have to diagnose whose having it, then what variables are shared between them and what might be causing it, then figure out how to fix the bug for those people, then check to make sure the fix doesn't break something else, then get it ready for upload. Its especially hard for developers like those of video games, were pushing out updates can cost tens of thousands of dollars from the console company. These people are working 24/7 to make sure things work so people need to be more lenient with them.

While working as an intern, it has made a huge difference on how I see life. Coming from a perspective of only ever being in school, I imagined work to be pretty similar; doing lots of busy work that doesn't really benefit anything substantially, working boring and long hours, and constantly trying to get the best test scores. Interestingly, while work has some of the same things, it feels nothing like it. The work you do is beneficial to the people you're doing it for, the hours you work are rarely boring and time can pass by quickly, and no ones fighting to be the best on your team, you're all working together to make the best product you can.
