The focus of our exhibition this year was to create a setting that involved all of the subjects we were learning about and make them tell a story of what we went through to get to the final product (Exhibition). Not only were we trying to tell a story for each piece, we tried to tell that story using the other pieces as well, such as how our research topic (cancer, neurological disease, cardiovascular disease, or diabetes) affected our plans to stay healthy for one month. We had a number of pieces including: Pieces of me, Creative Commissions, Disease group art piece (Art), Oral history interviews (Humanities), Healthcare infographics (Math), Health plan writeups, and Dissected pig mounts. (Biology, Each product can be found in their respective class pages)
While this exhibition thing may just sound like a big overview, theres a lot more to it. The steps I took for making the projects not sound like an overview were to not only tell people what we did, but why we did it and how we learned it can affect the people we were talking to. I mentioned things such as how people doing the health plans weren’t just doing it to do it, but that they were designing it based around preventing the disease that they learned about. I showed people that the purpose of our scientist interviews was to create an art piece to display their work in an easy to understand manner.
For all the work I did leading up to exhibition, and the final product of exhibition, I believe I did a much better job than I anticipated. Although the work was hard, and at a lot of points I really did not want to do it, I’m really glad I did because It really paid off and it showed that I worked hard at it. The lesson research helped strengthen my writing, as I wasn’t very good at writing with a lot of details. The health plans helped me with doing things to stay healthier and be better at doing things because of that, and during exhibition, helped me with not only presenting my work, but our group as a whole. The oral history interview helped me learn how to speak more professionally and how to keep things interesting and relevant. This exhibition was really something else and I feel like I grew the most at that point more than my entire time at this school.
